Icon of St. Abundius, Bishop
of Como
Feast day: April 2
Born in Thessalonica, St.
Abundius was ordained and made Bishop of Como in Italy. A noted
theologian, he attended the Council of Constantinople in 450. He was
sent by St. Leo the Great (Leo I of Old Rome) on a mission to Emperor
Theodosius II, preparatory to the Council of Chalcedon, at which the
Monophysite heresy of Dioscorus of Egypt was routed through a miracle
of St. Euphemia the Great-martyr. At the Council of Milan, held in the
following year, St. Abundius refuted the heresy of Eutychianism. Holy
Father Abundius, pray to God for us!
