Icon of St. Beatrice of Rome, martyr

Back to WESTERN SAINTS ICONS

Icon of St. Beatrice, Martyr of Old Rome

Feast: July 29

After her brothers Sts. Simplicius and Faustinus were martyred during the persecution of Diocletian, St. Beatrice recovered their holy bodies from the Tiber river and buried them on the road to Porto. Shortly thereafter, she was denounced as a Christian by her neighbour, Lucretius, and when she refused to sacrifice to the demon gods, she was strangled for her faith on May 11.

Icon is by the hand of Mother Justina, Greek Old Calendarist convent of St. Elizabeth, Etna, California, with permission.
